Dr. Smith is a 1986 graduate of the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts and sciences. He graduated magna cum laude from William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University–The Chicago Medical School. He completed his surgical residency at Central Community Hospital in Clifton, Illinois.

Immediately following his residency, Dr. Smith joined Family Foot & Ankle Center.

He is a diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery (DABPS) and is a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (FACFAS). He has a special clinical interest in diabetic foot care and has attained the title of Certified Wound Specialist (CWS) through board certification from the American Academy of Wound Management. He is a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society. He served nine years as the president of the Triangle Zone of the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society and is currently on the Board of Managers of InStride Foot & Ankle Specialists.

Dr. Smith is on staff at Duke-Raleigh and Maria Parham hospitals.

Dr. Smith enjoys cycling, running, music and hiking with his wife.

Dr. Dougherty is a graduate of Penn State University. He received his doctor of podiatric medicine degree from Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine. He completed his residency in general and reconstructive foot surgery at Tenet Health System's Parkview and City Avenue hospitals in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Dougherty has a particular clinical interest in foot and ankle surgery and he also enjoys sports medicine and providing routine foot care.

Dr. Dougherty is board-certified in foot surgery, a diplomat of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) and a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association as well as the North Carolina Foot and Ankle Society. He is on staff at Duke Raleigh, Rex and Maria Parham Hospitals.

Dr. Dougherty is an avid college football fan and enjoys movies, music, sports and running half marathons. He and his wife and kids love anything to do with Disney World.
